Measure of the Heart named 2009 Michigan Notable Book

The Library of Michigan has named Mary Ellen Geist’s Measure of the Heart one of it’s 2009 notable books! Each year this exclusive and prestigious list is compiled for the 20 most notable Michigan titles published the previous year, out of over 300 submissions. There will be celebratory events, including an author reception and statewide tour in April 2009. Congrats, Mary Ellen!!

Mary Ellen Geist was also featured again on Jane Gross’ great The New Old Age blog last week on the New York Times website.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

A new study from Harris Interactive shows that Americans are working more and playing less.

Apparently we spend, on average, 46 hours a week working and 16 hours playing. Our leisure time is at an all-time low since 1973, apparently.

What do you think? How much time do you spend working? Playing? Are we all destined to end up, let’s say a bit high strung, like this guy (below)?
