As the summer draws to a close it’s not uncommon to start feeling your energy level drop a bit.
No fear, though! You can re-vamp your energy level by eating a few key things at the right time!
There is a lot of advice out there about what to eat, but luckily I have weeded through the complicated and long-winded stuff, and found a great little blog post that offers simple advice.
Check it out here on the FitnessTown blog!
p.s. notice the post references our very own book The Good Mood Diet by expert Susan Kleiner!

Paula Span, author of WHEN THE TIME COMES (in stores this June!)
When she’s not writing, Paula Span, one of our own Springboard authors, teaches classes at Columbia University. She teaches such classes as “Techniques of Feature Writing,” and serves as an advisor to students working on their master’s projects. We are delighted to announce that this past week Paula was named Teacher of the Year by the Class of 2009. This award is quite an honor, and was presented to her by The Society of Professional Journalists at Columbia.
Congratulations Paula!

I don’t know how many of you have seen Charles Grodin’s great comedic roles in The Heartbreak Kid or Midnight Run, but his performances are laugh-out-loud funny. What you may not know, is that he’s also a really great person who has spent much of the last 20 years giving back to those who need help–from the homeless (he is a major fundraiser for Help USA) to those who are suffering extremely long imprisonments under the felony murder rule.
We are so proud to have published HOW I GOT TO BE WHOEVER IT IS I AM, Chuck’s recent memoir that recounts the “teaching moments” in his life from his days in Hebrew School to his days as a talk show host. His stories are funny and revelatory. I am lucky enough to know Chuck; I’d like to introduce him to you through his book.

Last month we sent out a request for early reviewers for The Shiniest Jewel, Marian Henley’s upcoming graphic memoir. Boy did we ever get a great response! You’ve been posting to our share a story section and to your own blogs. Here’s what people are saying:
On Gather.com, Mary M. calls it a “heartfelt memoir.” At Checking Out and Checking In it’s called “a short and sweet happily-ever after memoir told in comic book style,” and at Book Droppings, Jessica writes that it’s a “simple and loving story.”
You can read all the advance reader stories here.

| Ritchie and Madonna. Source: people.com. |
If you’ve been keeping up with the tabloids (or The New York Times) this week, you’ve no doubt seen that a few prominent boomer marriages have hit the skids: Madonna is rumored to have had an “affair of the heart” with baseball player Alex Rodriguez, and meanwhile Christie Brinkley’s divorce trial continues to make headlines. At 49 (Her Madgesty) and 54 (Brinkley), both of these ladies have mastered How Not to Look Old, but perhaps they could use some advice from another Springboard author? In The Marriage Benefit, marriage therapist (and instructor of psychology at Harvard) Mark O’Connell argues that saving a marriage is almost always worth it. What advice would he offer Madonna, Brinkley, and their husbands? He might point to the seventh resolution in his book: Forgive and give thanks. O’Connell recommends that partners acknowledge their disappointments with each other without assuming that either person deserves more of the blame for the situation.
Do you think it’s possible for Guy Ritchie to forgive Madonna for her alleged adultry? Should Christie Brinkley have given Peter Cook another chance? Are celebrity marriages worth saving? Let us know what you think, and if you’re looking for more marriage tips, check out The Marriage Benefit.
