No more winter blahs!

Last week Karen wrote about beating the winter blues. She suggested wearing the right makeup. (See also: here, here, here, here, and here!) And then today, my buddy, Real Simple e-mailed me (we’re tight) with some more tips. Here are their tips for beating the winter blahs:

Host an Impromptu Party:
Entertaining is easy when you have a game plan. The includes quick and easy recipes; can’t-fail music tips; high-design, low-effort table-setting ideas; and a shopping list for everything you need. Keep it casual and invite your friends by e-mail. Better yet, send a Real Simple Evite invitation. Need an excuse to party? How about the Oscars. Host your own award ceremony with this fun, crowd-pleasing Oscars game.

Spread the Love:
The way to your valentine’s heart is through these 7 simple Valentine’s Day menus. But if you prefer a craftier approach, make him or her something special out of everyday items (like sponges, dead batteries, and old lollipops…seriously). And to make sure cupid’s arrow is on the mark, take this quiz to see how well you know your partner.

Take on an Easy Organizing Project:
Start ticking off that list of to-dos: Sort through your kitchen cupboards, whip your closets into shape, and organize and print your digital photos (do you have one of Real Simple’s favorite photo printers?). Once you’ve selected your favorite pictures, find out how to display them on your walls and in albums.

Turn Your Bathroom into a Spa:
No need to spend money at the salon. Instead try an easy at-home pedicure and a do-it-yourself manicure. And learn how to blow dry your hair like a pro.

Those are just a few! Any other ideas?

Beat the Winter Blues with Blush

I don’t know about you, but this time of year I feel very tired and a little beaten down by the short, dark days of winter.  My skin seems to get paler to reflect the lack of sunshine and new adventures  in my life this time of year.  Well, it might sound superficial, but I’ve realized how much better I feel after I put on a little tinted moisturizer, some blush and maybe even a little bronzer.  All of a sudden I look more awake…and even happier.

I was lucky enough to work on the new Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual and, believe me, it will tell you all you need to know about looking better…whether from bronzer or eye liner, or just eating right.

I know in May, my cheeks will look a little more flushed from being outside in the fresh air and from walking my dog, but right now I need cosmetics.  Am I the only one?  Let me know.
